After engraving, the micarta scales are cleaned up with mild soap/water and a toothbrush. Since this removes all the moisture, they are lightly oiled for that nice shiney look. Bare in mind that while micarta scales can dry over time, they also absorb liquids which can potentially lead to a change in color. You can always clean them and rub in a little bit of your favorite knife oil to freshen it up.
